Code of Conduct

In order to maintain respect and the reputation of NSMT Ltd, all members should understand and follow this Code of Conduct, and play their part to promote NSMT as a professional body.

Insurance and Legal responsibilities

You must have Public Liability Insurance and if you have employees or subcontractors appropriate Employers Liability Insurance cover in place. You are expected to conform to all Tax, National Insurance, Pension and VAT regulations.

Paperwork

It is expected that members of NSMT should provide complete paperwork showing a description of the work to be done, with terms and conditions clearly defined and carry out Risk Assessment. It is advised that an estimate for scaffolding be given. Attention must be given to delivery of materials and waste disposal. Access to neighbouring property should be discussed and agreed before work commences.

Planning

It is the responsibility of owners to obtain planning consent before the work commences. Members should check to see if planning or listed building consent has been granted and follow any restriction in place. Members should, if necessary, notify the Local Authority of works.

Safety

Regular Health and Safety meetings must be held, and systems should be in place so that construction work is carried out with care and consideration for the safety of your work force, the public as well as for those living, visiting and working on site. All persons must be vigilant and report any breach of Health and Safety to the responsible person without delay.

Consideration to Neighbours and the Public

The site manager should speak with residents and neighbours throughout the project to inform them about site activity. Everyone affected by the project should be advised before work starts, neighbours etc. Nuisance caused by deliveries, traffic and parking should be minimised. Diversions should be clearly signed with special attention paid to the needs of those with sight, hearing and mobility difficulties.

Every effort must be made to follow good time keeping to ensure the job runs smoothly and on time. Keeping the customer informed at all times.

Respect

Everyone on site should be respectful to everyone irrespective of race, gender or beliefs.

Safe standards of dress and behaviour should be observed.

Improper conduct and language should not be tolerated.

The site and all welfare facilities should be clean, tidy and well presented. Waste, rubbish and litter should not be allowed to accumulate. Dusty operations should be managed to minimise any inconvenience.

Materials

All materials must be stored and used in a manner to avoid the risk of deterioration before and during use.

Environment

Every effort should be made to reduce, reuse and recycle waste. Materials should be obtained from sustainable sources, and local resources used where possible.

Responsible

Considerate contractors should be aware of their obligations to personnel, act in a professional and conscientious manner, and play a part in the development of the industry’s future workforce through training.

 

The site should be doing all it can to create an image of which the NSMT and the industry can be proud.
